PEPPER SPRAY & MACE®

Pepper spray is an excellent self-defense choice that is easy to carry and highly effective. Most have a keyring feature so they can be attached to your keychain to be conveniently carried and always at your fingertips.

Pepper spray is legal in all 50 states, but certain states have specific rules and regulations. Pepper spray regulations may even differ between counties and cities so please check with local law enforcement before purchasing pepper spray products.

The biggest advantage pepper spray offers is that it allows you to begin defending yourself anywhere from 6 feet to 50 yards away, depending on the model you choose. Keeping a safe space between you and your attacker is critical to defending yourself.

The fundamental makeup of pepper sprays and mace contains a bi-product of the hot pepper plant called Oleoresin Capsicum (OC). This oil is what gives pepper spray the irritation and hot effects that occur when it comes into contact with soft tissue such as the eyes, mouth, throat and lungs.

While Mace® and pepper spray have the same chemical foundation, Mace® is a brand name of pepper spray products. In short, all Mace® is pepper spray but not all pepper spray is Mace®.

The effects of pepper spray will temporarily debilitate your attacker for up to 30 minutes and provide you an opportunity to escape to safety and call 911. The attacker’s eyes will swell and start tearing uncontrollably. At the same time, the Oleoresin Capsicum will cause a violent reaction as it makes contact with the mouth, throat and lungs. The attacker will begin gasping for breath, coughing violently and possibly even vomiting. Although highly effective, pepper spray is non-lethal and the attacker’s body will eventually recover in several hours.
